Am I Gay?

Did you know that as of February 2022, Gallup found that 7.1 percent of US adults openly identity as LGBTQ+? (That's lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and other non-straight identities.) That’s a pretty staggering statistic, given that just 10 years earlier, only 3.5 percent of respondents identified themselves as LGBT.

Therefore, more than 20 million adults self-identified as LGBTQ+ in the US as of 2022. That doesn’t even include people who aren’t sure or publicly out about how their identities! The true number of LGBTQ+ American adults today could be millions more.

If you’re unsure about your sexual orientation, let us be the ones to tell you that you certainly aren’t alone. There’s a whole, wide world of people out there who can relate to you, intimately. Most queer people have had to come to some place of understanding about our own sexual orientations. It isn’t always linear or so clear a process. For many of us, queer coming-of-age includes looking in the mirror at some point in our lives and wondering, “Am I gay?”

How Will I Know If I'm LGBTQ+?

Some people know as early as they have a sense of self, and power to ‘em. On the other hand, others explore sex, dating, and who and what they’re into as they grow up, and there’s no shame in being a late bloomer, either. Nowadays, more and more people are coming to understand sexual orientation as living on a spectrum, not a gay-or-straight binary. it’s not uncommon for self-identified “straight” people to question their sexual orientations at some point in their lives, either.

It’s perfectly natural to be curious about your desires. In truth, it can take time to know just how you identify and who you gravitate toward. That goes beyond the scope of any one campy, multiple-choice gay quiz. But, if we can point you in the right direction? You know we’re going to try our very best.

Coming Out as LGBTQ+

Underwear Expert is a gay-owned company, after all. We’re gay men from all walks of life who dress men in men's briefs, men's jockstraps, and men's trunk underwear all day. That's all to say, we know a thing or two about the stigmas that can come with being and presenting as your authentic self. That’s why we invite you to break down your own stigmas and embrace everything that makes you, you.

In conclusion, it’s our wish that every man comes to a place of self-knowledge that lets him be as happy and fulfilled as can be. Whether that’s in your relationships, in the bedroom, or all on your own, you know better than we do. But, one step in that process for many of us? Figuring out what makes you happy and just who turns you on.
